In Shenyang, the winter weather is cold and winterization measures are taken to prevent the grapes from growing over the following winter. Through experiments, we obtained a simple, economical and effective antifreeze technology for grapevine winter --- cellar antifreeze.

First, the basic principle

According to studies, grapevines can tolerate low temperatures of -16°C, and buds can tolerate temperatures as low as -13°C. Roots have the lowest resistance to freezing. Seedlings of European origin, such as longan, rose, grape crown, etc., suffered frost damage at temperatures between -5°C and -7°C; Roses (dila), Roselle (Blaton), Negra, etc. European hybrids are freeze-damaged at -6°C to -8°C; Beida (riverside American grapes) can tolerate low temperatures at -13°C; Hill grapes are resistant to -15°C low temperatures. Therefore, the more frozen the grape indicator is -145C per day, the extreme minimum temperature is -30.6C, and the maximum permafrost depth is 1.4 meters. Therefore, the winter must be taken to prevent the grapes from freezing. Taking into account the fact that the temperature below 0.5m is higher than -5°C, and that permafrost is usually 1m, the antifreeze layer of grapes is preferably about 1m. By building anti-freeze walls and cellars, the grapes can be kept at temperatures above -5°C in the pits, which can prevent freezing damage in winter.

Second, key technologies

(a) Antifreeze in time. The lowest temperature in Shenyang is below -5°C. The average for many years is from November 6th to March 30th of the following year. The first appeared on October 20th and ended on April 12th, which is basically the same as the freezing date of the earth. Therefore, grape antifreeze is also carried out before the earth freezes from late October to early November. Premature antifreeze, lack of exercise in the autumn, overbreathing of the plants, low frost resistance, freezing too late, freezing of the soil, inconvenient operation, easy to have voids and air leakage after burying, unfavorable for safe wintering of the grapes.

(b) Apply fertilizer, pruning, and irrigation before freezing. After the grapes fall, the root branches are still active, so after the harvest, a fall of fertilization is required. Before freezing, open the vines, cut the branches, pick out the scion, and clean the orchard. Use young bricks on the roots. Then, once the water is irrigated, the water is infiltrated for two days and the vines are bundled and put in the oysters. The vines are covered with straw, and pesticides (rat poison) are used again to finally cover them with straw.

(3) Antifreeze cellar was built. After the grape vines are finished, antifreeze pits should be built. From 50 cm outside the roots of the cultivator, the wall is 1 to 2 meters wide and 0.8 to 1 meter high. Dig trenches outside the wall, the width and depth of each trench is 50 cm, and the surface of the trench is slope-shaped. After the grapes are covered with soil, one cubic metre of frost damages the cellar. Covering the soil is performed twice. Due to the high temperature in November, the cover (such as straw, corn stalks, etc.) was relatively wet; the grapes did not enter the hibernation state, the soil was overly thick, and the humidity in the cellar was too large to spread. Therefore, it is advisable to cover soil 10 centimeters for the first time. When the soil is frozen for centimeters, it will be covered with 40 centimeters. Unearthing in the spring is also carried out in two stages to suit the early spring. It is generally appropriate in early April. If a large-freezing season is encountered in winter, water can be poured into the ditch to prevent freezing from the sides of the earth wall.

Third, benefits and prospects

Cellar-type antifreeze is compared with solid anti-freeze because it maintains a certain space inside, the air is closed, the temperature change is small, and the influence of the outside weather changes is small, the grape is safe for winter; at the same time, the grapes are not directly buried, the pressure is small, and the soil is easy to uncover. Buds are not easily damaged. On the contrary, solid antifreeze, too much soil, the grapes are easily crushed, sprouting easily damaged when unearthed. Cellar-type antifreeze and scaffolding compared to freeze, the provincial forage, labor, cost. The volumetric freeze protection of large-area grapes is an economical and effective antifreeze measure.
