British baby SkylerMcKenzie was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis at 4 weeks of age and the tumor spread throughout the body;

A new clinical trial has reduced the size of the tumor so she can talk and walk;

A 2-year-old girl with a rare and incurable disease can walk, talk and swallow for the first time after receiving an experimental treatment. This therapy has only 2 test patients in the UK.

SkylerMcKenzie from Tonbridge, Kent, suffers from neurofibromatosis, which causes tumors to spread throughout her body. The tumor in the throat blocked her vocal cords, making her unable to swallow, and the tumor on her spine affected her mobility.

But since joining a clinical trial five months ago, Skyler's tumor has shrunk, which allows her to talk, eat, and start a toddler.

Skyler's mother, Jes Beeney, said she was the first time she heard her daughter call "Mom": "I never thought I would see this day... Skyler can now walk on the shelf and eat. Two months Before, when she first called 'mother', I cried happily."

Skyler suffers from type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1), which has a prevalence of 1:3000 in the UK. In addition to causing tumors, NF1 can also cause learning disabilities, skeletal deformities, and increase the risk of cancer. The most common symptom is a painless brown plaque on the skin. The tumor stretches along Skyler's spine, neck, throat, tongue, and gums, and even affects the optic nerve in her brain. Because of the high risk of bleeding and the damage to nerves and blood vessels, surgery is also very dangerous.
