Greenhouses undergo strict sterilization before sowing to significantly reduce the risk of pests and diseases. There are three effective methods for disinfection: First, high-temperature disinfection is commonly used during the hottest part of the day. The greenhouse film is tightly sealed, and all openings are closed to trap heat inside. This raises the internal temperature to 40–50°C or even higher. The intense heat kills most pathogenic bacteria and inactivates viruses. If the high-temperature period is missed, a stove can be used to achieve similar results by heating the greenhouse. Second, applying pesticides is another common method. For a typical greenhouse covering 400 square meters, you can spread 1.2 kg each of 70% dicyclanil and 65% triazophos on the ground, along with 40 kg of moist soil. Alternatively, mix both pesticides into a 300-times dilution and spray them over the soil surface. After thoroughly tilling the soil, you can place bait made from 0.3 kg of 90% trichlorfon mixed with 1 kg of wheat bran in the corners of the greenhouse to attract and eliminate pests like wireworms. Third, brushing the walls with lime milk is an effective way to kill bacteria hiding in the structure. High-quality quicklime is mixed into a milk-like solution and applied to the interior walls and back walls of the greenhouse. This not only disinfects but also helps to keep the environment clean and dry, further preventing disease outbreaks. By combining these methods, greenhouse growers can ensure a healthier growing environment, leading to better crop yields and fewer losses due to pests and diseases. It's important to follow proper safety measures when handling chemicals and to always wear protective gear when working in the greenhouse. Regular maintenance and monitoring after disinfection will help maintain a long-term healthy growing space.
