Straw is the residual by-product of crop ripening after harvest and harvesting, ie stem and dead leaves. China is a big country in agriculture and a major straw producer, among which corn straw, rice straw and wheat straw are the main products. The composition of straw is mainly fiber material composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, accounting for 75%-85% of straw dry matter. Straw silage is the main source of roughage for ruminants in China. Silage straw is a kind of green and juicy feed that is filled with fresh straw into a closed silo or plastic bag and fermented by microorganisms.
1. The principle of silage straw The beneficial bacteria treatment straw, the principle of making silage and rumen microbial fermentation is similar to the principle. Straw silage is added to the crop stalk by microbially active dry bacteria (Gumba silage starter) to convert a large amount of cellulosic substances into sugars under anaerobic conditions. The sugars are converted into lactic acid by organic acid fermentation bacterium. And volatile fatty acids, so that the pH dropped to 4.5 to 5.0, inhibited the proliferation of harmful bacteria such as butyric acid bacteria, spoilage bacteria. After silage, the conversion of straw into high-quality roughage not only improves the value of feeding, but also is not prone to spoilage and can be fed for long-term storage.

2. The advantages of silage straw
1) Improve plant utilization and reduce the loss of nutrients. Silage straw in the production process, the oxidative decomposition is weak, nutrient loss is small, generally not more than 10%, and stems and leaves soft and juicy, digestible vitamins, proteins, fats and other nutrients rich. 2) Straw silage can increase the appetite of livestock. Straw silage, after microbial fermentation - Gumba silage starter contains a large number of lactic acid bacteria and yeast, carbohydrates will be converted into lactic acid, acetic acid, succinic acid and alcohol, smell sweet and sour, high digestibility, palatable Good sex, can increase the appetite of livestock and promote digestion. 3) Silage corn stalks are stored for four seasons feeding livestock. Well-sealed silage corn stalks can be stored for a long period of time and can be used for seasonal feeding of livestock.
3. Considerations for silage straws Generally, straw silage should pay attention to the following points: 1) It must contain a certain amount of sugar. Generally, the soluble carbohydrate content should be 1% of its fresh weight (8% of feed dry matter). Corn stalks, sorghum stalks, etc. contain adequate or more soluble carbohydrates and are excellent silage materials. 2) In order to ensure the normal activity of lactic acid bacteria, the raw material should contain a certain amount of moisture. In general, the appropriate moisture content is 65% to 75%. When the moisture content is too much, the concentration of sugar and jelly in the straw is reduced, and the acid-producing bacteria cannot grow normally, resulting in deterioration of feed rot. When the water content is too small, the straw is not easy to be compacted and the residual air is too much. Can not guarantee the conditions of anaerobic fermentation, reduce the number of organic acids, easy to mildew. 3) Straw should be chopped or kneaded for use. This is not only convenient for loading and taking, but also for easy feeding of livestock. It also has important influence on the quality of silage, pH value, lactic acid content, and digestibility of dry matter. The length of chopped silage material varies depending on the type of silage material or the type of livestock.
