With the changing weather, most farmers have started their spring plowing and agricultural activities. From March to April each year, it's also a period when "cold spring" is common, bringing challenges for farmers. Recently, technical staff from the Agricultural Technology Service Center in Xiyong Town, Shapingba District, visited local fields to provide on-site guidance on how to effectively prevent cold damage and frost that can harm vegetable crops. It has been reported that the "cold spring" can cause different levels of frost damage to spring vegetable seedlings, fruit vegetables grown in greenhouses, and early-season vegetables in open fields. This can lead to losses such as rotting, dead seedlings, and dropped fruits. Therefore, farmers must remain vigilant and take preventive measures as early as possible to minimize potential damage. Director Ma from the Xiyong Town Agricultural Technology Service Center visited a field shed and reminded farmers, especially during frosty nights. While many farmers are familiar with methods to reduce frost damage, it's important to ensure that smoke sources are properly concentrated so that the smoke screen can cover the entire area. The best time to light the smoke is between midnight and 2:00 AM, and it should continue burning until sunrise, ensuring that the smoke screen remains effective throughout the night. This method has proven to be one of the most efficient ways to protect crops from frost.
