At a press conference held by the Gansu Provincial Department of Science and Technology on the 2nd, it was revealed that Lanzhou University has developed a new method for the rapid detection of melamine in liquid milk. This innovative technique has been officially recognized and validated through the research outcomes of the university. The technology was developed by a research team led by Professors Liu Weisheng and Huang Guosheng from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Lanzhou University. According to the cost analysis conducted by the research group, the supporting equipment required for the test is simple, widely available, and costs no more than 1,000 yuan. Each test requires approximately 20 yuan worth of reagents, and the system can process 4 to 5 samples within an hour, making it highly efficient and cost-effective. To ensure the accuracy and practicality of this testing method, the Gansu Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision organized six different institutions to conduct verification in accordance with national regulations. After thorough evaluation, the expert appraisal committee concluded that the new method is fast, sensitive, low-cost, and easy to operate. It has reached a leading domestic standard and is considered a significant breakthrough in food safety testing. This development is expected to greatly enhance the efficiency of melamine detection in dairy products, offering a reliable and affordable solution for both regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders. With its simplicity and affordability, the method could be widely adopted across the country, helping to strengthen food safety monitoring systems and protect consumer health.
