In different greenhouses, even if the vents are opened to the same size at the same time, the temperature inside each shed may not be the same. The answer is no. However, many vegetable farmers focus only on the size of the vent when ventilating, without considering the structural differences between greenhouses. Because of variations in height and roof shape, the airflow behavior during ventilation differs significantly, leading to different cooling effects. In smaller greenhouses, hot air doesn’t escape efficiently through the top vents, so even if the vents are fully open, the cooling effect remains limited. For example, under similar weather conditions, a high-arched greenhouse can effectively lower its temperature by opening the ceiling vent by 40 centimeters. In contrast, a smaller greenhouse with a lower roof might need to open the top vents to 60 centimeters, yet it still might not reach the same temperature as the larger one. Therefore, when ventilating, farmers should adjust the vent size based on actual temperature readings rather than just the vent’s width. It's recommended that each greenhouse be equipped with 2 to 4 thermometers to monitor internal temperatures accurately. When the temperature doesn't drop enough by opening the top vents, it’s important to also open the front vents to improve air circulation. This helps move hot air out more effectively and cools the space faster. Additionally, for crops that require less sunlight, farmers can further reduce temperatures by applying mud to the greenhouse film or using shade nets. However, care must be taken not to cover the vents completely when using shade nets, as this could block hot air from escaping and reduce the overall cooling efficiency.
