Simultaneous pairing: Select male and female pigeons of appropriate age and pair them together for feeding and management. This method not only simplifies daily care but also enhances feeding efficiency and increases egg production. Synchronized egg production begins approximately 8 days after pairing, ensuring a more controlled and efficient breeding cycle.
Synchronized hatching: Once the pigeons are paired, eggs are collected during the same period and recorded in a log. These eggs are then placed in a standard electric incubator. Regular maintenance of the incubator is essential, including monitoring temperature and humidity levels. The eggs should be placed in an egg tray with the blunt end facing up, and turned 5–6 times daily to ensure even development. At around 17–18 days of incubation, the eggs will begin to hatch.
Synchronized feeding: Newly hatched pigeons are moved to a brooding room where they are fed manually. The brooding area must be clean, disinfected, and equipped with a brooding rack. A brooding tray is placed inside the room, and a 2–3 cm thick layer of soft grass is laid down for comfort. Two pigeons are placed per dish to avoid overcrowding.
For pigeons aged 1–5 days, the diet consists of 40–50% skimmed milk powder mixed with 55–60% chick feed. Poultry mineral additives, vitamins, and antibiotics are added to support growth and immunity. The mixture is diluted with five times its volume in water to create a creamy consistency. The temperature of the mixture should be around 35°C before being administered into the pigeon's crop using a feeding syringe. Feed the young pigeons 4–5 times daily, with a total of 5–7 ml per day. The feeding amount is gradually increased starting from day 2.
By day 6–9, the proportion of skimmed milk powder in the diet is reduced to 3–5%, and feeding frequency is decreased to 3 times per day. The brooding room temperature starts at 35°C on the first day and is lowered by 0.5°C each subsequent day until it reaches 25°C.
After 18–21 days of proper care and feeding, the pigeons are ready for sale. This structured approach ensures healthy development, higher survival rates, and better productivity in pigeon farming.
